Back Pain As A Result Of Too Much Protein

Kidney back pain has been linked to over consumption of protein.

Many people in Canada and the US suffer from chronic and undiagnosed back pain, and even more experience sudden flare ups of severe pain that occur seemingly without cause. You may assume that your pain is caused from lifting something that was just too heavy, or sitting inappropriately for a long period at a computer, but this may not always be the case.

In today’s society there is a large focus on losing weight and building muscle. People are resorting to some rather off the wall fad eating plans, and while some can be effective for a short period of time, any kind of diet that limits the body’s nutrition can have sometimes strange and unexpected side effects.

An example that has been coming up recently is the high protein and low carbohydrate diet. Though we have mentioned the dangers of this diet previously, it is important to understand that the issue isn’t eating too much protein, it is consuming much more protein than carbohydrates. Your body needs carbohydrates in order to break down the proteins you consume, and limiting your carbohydrates when consuming large quantities of protein can seriously harm your kidneys. If you are noticing that your lower back hurts after grabbing an extra protein shake or if you eat a big steak the day before, it could be your kidneys causing the pain.

If you are concerned about eating too much protein, make sure you are balancing it out. Your body actually requires more carbohydrates than protein, the daily breakdown being like a 1 2 3 rule. You need 1 times the fat, 2 times the protein and 3 times the carbohydrates. So, if you know that you’ve consumed 10 g of protein, your body would require 15 g of carbohydrates and just 5 g of fat. Also, if you are bulking up by eating increased protein, remember that you cannot drink enough water! The key to avoiding protein related lower back pain is hydration and moderation.

This is helpful. I am 43 years old I look like Im 30 and I have never looked better then this. I do not say this to be conceded but rather to say that it is difficult once you see the results of this diet WITH a very solid work out regimin. So, I have exeperienced all of this. My pain in my back has continued as I elliminated one by one to see what the pain was….the critine, the pills, the power shake (Jac3d) and now the protien is the only thing left. I just drank it and I hurt again. So it must be the protien. I am gonna start eating pasta and I will let you all know what happened there…..peace

My right of my back started hurting last week. I’ve been drinking the pure protein shakes in the can. So I’m going to stop drinking them for the rest of this week and see if the pain stops.

I got to this blog, due to the fact that I have been consuming so much protein, in trying to REACH the almost impossible-to-reach amounts of daily protein “needs”, that the Protein Industry, has been constantly propagating and increasing.
I have been experiencing back pains and insomnia as a result of cutting down on my carbohydrates and consuming too much protein.

Before, the Protein Industry propagated that we need to consume 0.8 grams of protein, per KILO of body weight.
Not too long ago, they increased it to 0.8 grams of protein, per POUND of body weight.
Just a few months ago, they increased it further to 1 to 1.5 grams of protein, per POUND of body weight.
A doctor by the name of Dr. Lyon, seems to be at the frontline of propagating that humans need so much protein, not paying attention to the fact that too much protein, can increase inflammation in your gums, which eventually leads to Gingivitis, and compromise your kidneys and liver.
This doctor is even claiming that humans, originally, HAVE NO NEED for carbohydrates.
    Which is so untrue.
The pursuit of money by too many greedy people in this world, has led them to MISLEAD and misinform the general public. Just to make themselves richer.
